The HTC Touch shows to be a supported device but I still can't run WalkingHotSpot on my HTC Touch, why? Not all versions of the HTC Touch include Wi-Fi™. (esp. CDMA carrier versions like Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, etc). Please ensure your HTC Touch has a built in Wi-Fi™ adapter or radio before installing WalkingHotSpot. WalkingHotSpot AND DATA SECURITY
Why can't I use WPA security? Ad-Hoc WLAN networks are by definition "open". WalkingHotSpot supports WEP security and MAC filtering as the WalkingHotSpot user authenticates who can join their network. Additionally WalkingHotSpot supports HTTPS, VPN, and other application level security measures to provide stronger security. Is there any way to restrict a WalkingHotSpot client connection? Yes, utilize the block client feature. The connecting client can either be blocked at connection time or during usage. They can be blocked for the current session or permanently. WalkingHotSpot CLIENT DEVICES
Which client devices does WalkingHotSpot support? We have tested heavily with most of the major laptops, UMPCs, tablets and Wi-Fi™ enabled devices with very good results. Does WalkingHotSpot support gaming devices, like Nintendo DS, PSP, or WII? The gaming consoles currently don't support Ad Hoc mode for connecting to the internet and in some cases they run a proprietary version that only lets like devices connect and play. Can WalkingHotSpot multi-task (for example, SMS, make calls, browse the Internet, play games, etc.)? Every effort has been made to make WalkingHotSpot efficient with system resources. On 3G networks that can handle it, we have made and received calls while running WalkingHotSpot. On older networks, the data connection may pause or be lost when a call is made. Browsers, media players, and other Internet applications can be used at the same time. WI-FI™ REQUIREMENTS
Can we support infrastructure mode, if the hardware supports this? Currently the chipset vendors, by instruction of the handset manufacturers, have pulled out some of the hardware components needed to fully support infrastructure mode as a way of saving money. In many cases the phone can run in infrastructure mode as a client but not as a server which is needed to "host" a hotspot. For this reason currently only Ad Hoc or peer-to-peer mode is supported. |
